Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

SchoolSift is operated by StorySafe LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect when you use schoolsift.com and the SchoolSift application, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

2. Information we collect

Account information: your name, email address, and authentication credentials handled by our authentication provider. We never store your password in plain text.

Family information you enter: your children's first names, grades, school names, teacher names and known school sender addresses or domains. Enter only what you're comfortable storing.

Email content you send us: messages forwarded to your unique SchoolSift address, or pasted into the app for testing. We store the sender, subject, plain-text body and received time.

Derived data: the summaries, action items, dates and money asks our processing extracts from those messages.

Usage and technical data: log entries, device and browser type, and error reports used to keep the service running.

3. How we use your information

To identify which messages relate to which child, extract the details that need your attention, and assemble your digest.

To deliver your digest by email at the frequency and on the day you choose.

To operate, secure, debug and improve the service, and to respond to your support requests.

To process payments for paid plans through our payment processor.

4. Email processing and AI

We only process the email you send to your SchoolSift address or paste into the app. We do not read your wider mailbox, and we do not have access to any mail you don't forward.

Message content is sent to a third-party large language model provider solely to classify and extract items for you. We instruct providers not to retain your content for model training, and we send only the content needed for the task.

Automated extraction is not perfect. SchoolSift is an assistant, not a substitute for reading anything time-critical.

5. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.

We share data only with service providers who help us run SchoolSift: cloud hosting and database, AI processing, transactional email delivery, and payment processing. Each is bound by contract to protect your data.

We may disclose information if legally required, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

6. Data retention and deletion

Raw email bodies are retained while your account is active so your digests and archive stay accurate. You can delete individual items at any time.

Deleting your account from Settings permanently removes your profile, children, schools, teachers, stored emails, extracted items and digests. Backups age out within 30 days.

You can also email hello@schoolsift.com to request deletion or a copy of your data.

7. Security

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by our infrastructure providers. Access to your records is restricted at the database level so that only your account can read your family's data.

No system is perfectly secure. If we become aware of a breach affecting your data, we will notify you promptly.

8. Children's privacy

SchoolSift is for parents and guardians. Accounts are for adults only. We store children's first names and grades only because you enter them to make sorting work, and we do not knowingly collect information directly from children.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, and to object to certain processing. Contact hello@schoolsift.com and we will respond within 30 days.
